The ParentAssess framework is based on the Department of Health (2000) Assessment Framework and complies with case law and the Good Practice Guidance on Working with Parents with a Learning Disability (University of Bristol, 2021) and the Guidance for social workers for families where the parent has a learning disability (Llywodraeth Cymru/Welsh Government, 2023).
Our ParentAssess provision offers specialist, evidence-informed parenting assessments. The assessment model is designed to be accessible, fair and responsive, ensuring that parents are given the opportunity to demonstrate their parenting capacity in a way that reflects their individual needs, strengths and circumstances. The child’s experience of being parented is central to the assessment process and along the way, the parent is given the opportunity to learn and develop their parenting skills. It is a fair assessment process, which carefully considers the issue of “parenting with support” and uses a range of tools to establish parenting ability.
